Previously it was rumored that Persani had crossed out one of her daughter's athletes to compete at the 2019 SEA Games because it was no longer a virgin. This surprised his family and did a virginity check at a hospital. The result, Shalfa was declared still a virgin.
Sesmenpora Gatot Dewa Broto in his statement received SINDOnews, Friday (11/29/2019), said it immediately checked the truth of the news by contacting Persani PB Chairman Ita Yuliati. From the information received, it is not true that Shalfa was forcibly sent home.
"The truth is Mr. Pak (his trainer in East Java) said that the athlete was involved and lacked focus. This resulted in decreased performance, so it was decided the trainer was not included in the SEA Games and replaced by other athletes whose ranks were much higher," said Gatot.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is very concerned about this incident. "We have directly communicated with Persani. This is related to the problem of his performance condition, so it has nothing to do with the problem, sorry, check for virginity."
In accordance with Perpres 95/2017, athlete's promotion and degradation rights do exist in sports not in Kemenpora or KONI. "But if it is true that the repatriation of the athlete was due to allegations of virginity problems which the coach said, we will act decisively. Because this is not only a matter of privacy and respect for someone, it also has nothing to do with achievement," said Gatot.
Gatot further appealed for sports to not cause even the slightest excitement. Because, this will have a broad impact on the concentration of the Indonesian contingent as a whole. "It is better to consult directly with the sports leaders or KONI and if it cannot be resolved directly to the Ministry of Youth and Sports so that sensitive issues like that can be immediately mitigated as soon as possible."
