Several thousand members of the "yellow vests" movement demonstrated in Paris under strong police supervision; several incidents occurred when demonstrators attempted to break the police cordon. The gendarmes used tear gas.
One person was taken out of the crowd on a stretcher, but it is not known why – says AFP.
Students, trade unionists from CGT trade union headquarters and anti-fascists joined the "yellow vests" march.
The crowd chanted "Everyone hates the police!", And to their postulates to improve the material situation "yellow vests" joined the request to maintain the current pension system, which the government is going to reform.
The protesters also shouted "Macron – demission!". Demands for the resignation of French President Emmanuel Macron have accompanied the demands of "yellow vests" almost from the beginning of this movement, which began on November 17, 2018 with protests first against the fuel tax and then against the government's economic policy.
Demonstrations turned into a brutal revolt and aggressive protests, but in recent months the movement has lost both impetus and largely public support. From Thursday, however, "yellow vests" began to join the protests against the pension reform.
The French government organized a "national debate" for several months to determine the causes of the revolt and find solutions to social tensions. After it, tax cuts, reform of the pension system, facilitating the holding of referendums and the reorganization of the state administration were announced. Now, however – a few months after the debate – pension reform has become another reason for strikes and protests in which "yellow vests" are also involved.
