An exhibition with lesser known works by 33 artists linked to Portuguese Surrealism, from Cesariny to Fernando Lemos, will be opened on Friday at the Portuguese Surrealism Center, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, this Tuesday was announced.
“Only imagination transforms” gives title to this exhibition, which brings together works from the collection of the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, where the center is located, and is responsible for the organization.
Cruzeiro Seixas, Isabel Meyrelles, António Dacosta, Marcelino Vespeira, António Areal, Paula Rego, Jorge Vieira, Eurico Gonçalves, Mário Elói, Fernando de Azevedo, Mário Henrique Leiria, João Moniz Pereira, Pedro Oom, António Paulo Tomás, Raul Perez and Risques Pereira, are some of the 33 artists who will be represented in this exhibition.
The “transforming power of the imagination” appears as a link for this exhibition, according to the foundation, which aims to create “a dialogue between 33 artists, divulging the character of each one, with emphasis on some of their works”.
“The artistic production of the thirty-three artists represented in this exhibition is extensive and very relevant for Portuguese Art, from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, more than half a century since the end of the surrealist movements in Portugal”, he underlines, in a statement.
Sculptures, objects, collages, paintings and drawings selected for the show will mirror “a joint celebration of art, friendships and ruptures of artists”.
“Only the imagination transforms. Only the imagination upsets, ”says Mário Cesariny in“ The Surrealist Intervention ”, in a“ free exercise of the spirit ”, in which all“ imagination is acting in the world ”, recalls the organization, citing one of the most emblematic artists of Portuguese Surrealism .
The exhibition opens on Friday, at 16:00, and will be open until October 31 at the Portuguese Center of Surrealism.
