Association says that Nurkic has helped in several humanitarian actions in recent years
Bosnian basketball player Jusuf Nurkic of the Portland Trail Blazers of the North American Basketball League (NBA) donated 125 tons of food to a humanitarian organization in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to be delivered to the most needy in the country.
"Nurkic's donation greatly facilitated our goal of reaching the 500 tonnes of food that we are going to deliver to people in need," says the Pomozi association on its Facebook page.
The association says that Nurkic has helped in several humanitarian actions in recent years, but that this is the first time that he authorized his participation to be revealed.
Pomozi hopes that by releasing the name of the 25-year-old player, others will feel motivated to help those in need who are "more and more, especially now with the new coronavirus pandemic".
Bosnia and Herzegovina has confirmed 2,290 cases of covid-19 infection, with 133 fatalities.
Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 313,500 deaths and infected more than 4.6 million people in 196 countries and territories.
More than 1.6 million patients were considered cured.
